An identity, that's the reason of a part of the lives of a citizen, having a national identity you can participate and express your opinion -apparently-. If you are not register to vote, you are not part of this country, i mean, as a matter of decision, and even the same people who are around you think the same as the power spheres.
To start with, this country has been built destroying our origins, when you were child, whether another one say to you "mapuche" it was an insult and people did not say anything about it. In the school the only thing you learnt is the fight they had against the spanish colonist and how that fight and subsequent years made us. We as Chilean -not as people who are registered to vote, i mean, all of us are chilean not just a few ones- are not concern about others, to our eyes there are no more image than ourselves. Nevertheless, nowadays I've realized that many people identify with them in some aspects, I do identify with them, because it is a part of us, a part of our history. We MUST understand they have faced hard situations, they have lost territory, family, please try to be sympathetic.
If you ask me, I consider myself Chilean, you could say, of course you are Chilean, but because of being Chilean you have no rights to talk about the parliamentry candidates, future president, or even about the major, that's not a characteristic. For me, being a chilean characteristic is when you are concerned about your people, when you really feel that you belong to a country, it's not necessary to have a personal ID or something like that, that's for me are reasons to have a chilean characteristic, when there is respect for a culture and traditions. the same characteristics make me proud of my chilean identity, however, when I feel that the same people make profit of the needs of our people, that makes me feel ashamed.
the chilean culture is something that every chilean has in the blood, we are full of things that make us particular cases in each part of the country, the mix of everything for me is the chilean culture.
In your opinion, what is the so called "Chilean culture"?
